Why was it considered a touchdown when the Atlanta quarterback fumbled the ball on the half yard line?
According to NFL rule at least to my knowlege a ball cannot be fumbled forward. The only way a fumbled ball can be forward of the spot of the fumble is if it is advanced or recovered by the player that originally fumbled the ball.
I was under the impression that only applied to behind the line of scrimmage as the quarterback can no longer throw the ball. That then the same rules that apply to any back carrying the ball apply?
It can be recovered forward if it is not in the last 2 minutes of the half.
If it is in the final 2 minutes, then the only way it can be recovered forward is by the person that fumbled it.
If it is recovered by one of his team mates, they will keep the ball, but at the spot of the fumble.
